Nottinghamshire Youth GamesThe Nottinghamshire Youth Games took place on Saturday 5 th July at Ashfield School. The event consisted of 31 players from 5 Borough’s in the County. The day started with a sudden downpour but it did little to dampen the spirits of the players.
As judo is a weight category sport, the event started with the boys and girls being placed into pools according to sex, weight and playing experience. The ethos of the Youth Games is for new participants to judo to have a taste of competition in an informal environment.
The day saw some spectacular competitions over the 2 minute contest time. The quality of judo on show is a true testament of the ability of the players the county holds.
This event witnessed 7 clubs from the County all come together and pool resources. Judo requires an on mat referee, table officials and timekeepers as well as coaches and players to run an event. The success of this event was a sign of how all the clubs and parents worked together. This type of experience will hopefully build in future to create a stronger County awareness of Judo.
