We like the idea of having judo in School, but....Do we need to buy Judo mats? No, All of the Enjoy Judo coaches will bring with them at least a 6m x 6m mat area, These mats are 1m x 1m square and have a density of 40mm. Do the children need Judo suits? No, We advise for the first term at least that the children wear the school PE kit, however if they would like to purchase a Judo suit, The school coach can supply this at a very competitive rate. What qualifications do the coaches have? All of the Enjoy Judo school coaches have a UKCC Level 2 coaching certificate, to gain this certificate all coaches need to have an up to date First Aid qualification, a CRB Check and to have been on the Safeguarding and Protecting children workshop. Do the Coaches have a Full C.R.B check? Enjoy Judo coaches have a Full Criminal Records Bureau Check and these can be seen at every session along with the coaches other documentation. Are the coaches insured? Holders of a valid British Judo Association (B.J.A) coach award have public liability insurance cover from the B.J.A whilst delivering authorised activities and systems £10,000,000 professional indemnity. Full details can be found on the British Judo website Click Here Are the children insured? Yes, If they are being taught by a B.J.A qualified coach, the coach is insured through the associations professional indemnity. If the children take out a Judo licence with the association they also have insurance as a member (See Above). Children that are being taught in school by a Enjoy Judo coach that do not take out a licence and the school has authorised the activity the children are covered through the Local Education Authority (L.E.A). Do you have Risk Assessments? Yes, Every one of our coaches carries a copy of the Risk Assessment that has been prepared especially for schools. If you would like a copy of this please contact the programme manager. How does the payment work? There are two main ways that you can pay for the the services of Enjoy Judo, firstly there is a session charge, this charge will include all travel costs, set up time, mats, coaching time and break down time, this is usually invoiced after a couple of sessions, The second way is after an assembly or pre activity all children receive a letter telling them when there session will take place, where the session will be and who the coach will be, the children then fill in the application form and send it back to the British Judo Association, we then put their name onto a register, the child will receive a welcome pack telling them that they have been accepted onto a session. Two weeks before a session is due to commence the contact at the school will receive a copy of the register. How does the school fund the session? The school can fund the sessions in many ways, Through the local School Sports Coordinator (SSCo), Partnership Development Manager (PDM), County Sports Partnership (CSP) or the school itself sometimes has money to put towards a Out Of Hours Learning Programme (OHL), These are usually for breakfast or after school clubs. We also run sessions for certain target groups, these may be for disaffected or non sporty types for example. How do we keep the sessions sustainable? We try and keep all the sessions fun and informative - all of the children that have a BJA licence will be graded through the National Governing Bodies, Grading Scheme. We also keep in touch with the school and we are available to supply assemblies and letters to introduce new members to the class. Do you take registers? On most sessions, Yes. If the session has been set up through the school, where the children pay, the school will receive a register before the class commences, however all classes can be administered so a register can be taken. How many children are allowed on the session? The B.J.A has a coaching policy of 30 children to one Level two coach in a school environment. Do you provide exit routes into Judo Clubs? We have Enjoy Judo Vouchers that are for use between schools and clubs. These vouchers are given to the children on the sessions and they can redeem them for a free session at the local Judo club, These vouchers are then sent to the programme manager for tracking purposes. We have had a Judo coach before, what makes you different? Enjoy Judo is a programme ran through the British Judo Association, the National Governing Body for the sport of Judo in Great Britain, all of our schools coaches are employed on a full time basis through British Judo, with our programmes being led by a programme manager, Enjoy Judo has the resource of the Association behind it. Enjoy Judo coaches have a constant professional development programme and are committed to ensuring that every child has a positive experience of the Olympic sport of Judo. I like what I have read, What do I do now? If above we have managed to answer your questions and you would like to discuss Enjoy Judo coming to your school please contact Programme Manager Wayne Lakin.
