The 2011 Tonbridge International
Training Camp is nearing capacity in record time with an influx
of European and Asian judoka set to take the annual event by storm
from Sunday 18 – Wednesday 21 December.
The camp is aimed at
14 – 23-year-olds who are highly-competitive judoka and wish to
improve their overall performance and competition levels.
Over 200 judoka have
already signed up including a 12-strong strong national Russian
team and their coach Vladimir Drachko, a former European Champion
who will stage a special technical session during the camp.
Japan is sending some
of their brightest prospects from Tsukuba University while China
will also be sending a contingent to the renowned four-day camp.
Coaches will include
Moscow Olympian Chris Bowles, a European silver medallist and
double British Open champion as well as Carl Finney, a double
Commonwealth and British Open champion.
The camp is widely regardest
domestically and around the world with last year's instalment
attracting no end of plaudits.
Karen Roberts, British
Judo's Performance Operations Manager, said: "Even on the
last session of a tough weekend, the atmosphere was great and
that is the secret of a good training camp."
Olympic bronze medallist
Dennis Stewart, father of Junior European silver medallist and
-73kg ace Max, said: "It was the best camp we have seen in
the UK in many years. The food and accomodation was excellent."
