Two of Britain's greatest
ever judoka, Olympic silver medallists Neil Adams and Ray Stevens,
teamed up to stage a truly memorable masterclass to raise money
for Cancer Research at The Budokwai on Saturday 25 June.
The star-studded session
raised £600 for Cancer Research as Adams and Stevens rolled back
the years in a trip down memory lane as the two former Budokwai
stalwarts looked back on their illustrious careers.
Adams, is now head coach
of the Belgian national team, while Stevens coaches four sessions
a week at The Budokwai in addition to running his own Judo and
Fitness Club in Wimbledon.
Adams said: “I was delighted
to see my old friends at The Budokwai, the oldest club in Europe,
to raise funds for Cancer Research.
“We raised lots of money
on behalf of my dear friends Elvis Gordon, Bill Ward and Simon
Hicks who lost their battles with this terrible disease. I thank
all who took part and supported us, the charity is something very
close to my heart.”
Also in attendance were
Budokwai Head Coach Peter Blewett, 1956 Olympian Tony Sweeney
and Paul Ajala who coaches at the club and Harrow School.
Budokwai Chairman and
British Judo Board of Director Brian Davies said: “We were very
privileged to see both Neil and Ray taking a tremendous session
to raise money for a fantastic cause.”
