Hollesley Judo Club, the
2010 Suffolk Coastal Sports Awards Club of the Year, recently
held a Sponsored Throw event to raise funds for the Help for Heroes
charity.
The flourishing club, who
also saw chief instructor Neil Jolliffe claim the Coach of the
Year prize last year, stage sessions at the 23 Engineer Regiment,
Rock Barracks, formerly an American Air Base and were keen to
support British soldiers.
70 judoka took to the mat
in teams of five to complete as many throws in 10 minutes as each
participant took turns throwing their team-mates.
There was also a raffle,
cake sale and with some very generous donations Hollesley raised
£2,130 for Help for Heroes and £1,200 for the club.

A cheque was presented
to Staff Sergeant Gareth Jones of the 23 Engineer Regiment who
accepted the significant sum on behalf of Help for Heroes.
“I can’t praise the club
enough for all their efforts and fundraising,” he said.
“This money will go a long
way to helping the injured service men and women and we’re very
grateful to everyone who has contributed.”
Senior club coach Julie
Jolliffe said: “Our fundraising success is really because of the
fantastic club spirit we have and everyone really did enjoy themselves
also knowing they were raising money for two worthwhile causes.”
