Knottingley Judo Club youngster collects runner-up prize at awards

Knottingley Judo Club youngster Henry Stables received the runner-up prize for the Junior Male of the Year category at the Wakefield and District Annual Sports Awards on Monday 6 June.

The awards took place at Cedar Court Hotel in Wakefield to recognise the achievements of local sports people. The evening was hosted by BBC Look North frontman Harry Gration and special guest Wakefield rugby league legend Neil Fox.

Knottingley Judo Club Chairman and Coach Peter Simpson said: “Following a great start to his competitive career, Knottingley Judo Club nominated nine-year-old Henry Stables for the Junior male of the year award and he was shortlisted to the last three.”

Henry attended the awards ceremony with members of his family, Peter Simpson and Club Secretary Avril Lee and in the end Henry had to settle for a highly-commendable runners-up trophy.

“Well done Henry from all your team mates and everyone at Knottingley Judo Club,” added Peter Simpson.

Knottingley Judo Club train at Knottingley Sports Centre, NR Pontefract, West Yorkshire, WF11 8EE. Boys and girls train on a Tuesday and Thursday at 19:00 – 20:00 while men and women follow at 19:30 – 21:00.
