Funding boost for flourishing Linlithgow Judo Club

Christmas has come early for West Lothian’s Linlithgow Judo Club who have received a grant of £6000 from Awards for All.

The grant will pave the way for the highly-regarded club to purchase new equipment such as mats to enable them to host bigger training sessions and more gradings.

Gareth Butterfield of Linlithgow Judo Club said: “We want Linlithgow Judo Club to continue growing, and the purchase of new mats and equipment is only the first phase in our development. We are going from strength to strength not only behind the scenes in the running of the club, but also in producing and developing some great judo players.

"We are very fortunate to have extremely committed members sharing the same vision for success, and with this we want to encourage new players from the community and surrounding areas, regardless of Judo experience and skill, to come and attend the club. We also welcome any other newcomers to train, whether guests, or visitors from other clubs. Everyone’s welcome.

"I would like to thank everyone who has contributed to helping fund and develop our existence within the town, from the families and friends of members, to those in the community, including The News Shop, The Sewing Room, Robert Callander’s Opticians, The Rugby Club, Semichem, Linlithgow Grange Rotary Club, and Linlithgow Round Table. And of course, I would like to thank Awards for All for granting us such a generous sum of money.”

Meanwhile the club have also enjoyed success on the mat as Barclay Gunn has captured his 1 st Dan black belt and also completed his level 1 coaching qualification to support head coach Paul Hornsey.

Gareth Butterfield took gold at Kendal Judo Club’s Kyu Grade Open competition and has recently completed his BJA Instructor Award to become a training supervisor.

The club’s tremendous efforts were recently recognised by the West Lothian Council Accreditation Scheme who awarded the club award of Access Level.

Linlithgow Judo Club train at Lowport Outdoor Centre, Lithgow on a Tuesday at 19.00 – 20.00 and on Saturday at 09.00 – 10.00. For more information contact Gareth on 07831433625.
