Anna Soubry, the Conservative
MP for Broxtowe, cut the ribbon on Ryecroft Judo Club’s refurbished
dojo at the Beeston Youth and Community Centre on Saturday November
20.
The talent-laden club,
which founded in 1958, has been based in Beeston for 40 years
and in that time cultivated a reputation as a breeding ground
for future internationals.
Work began in 2008 to fully refurbish
the building and practice area after the club raised funds with
support from Beeston Community Centre, Beeston Council and Nottinghamshire
County Council.

Coach and founding
club member Tony Shaw, who won Junior Coach of the Year at the
British Judo Awards ceremony in October, was present along with
Ray Topple, an 8th Dan and International Judo Federation senior
referee, who was on hand to guide Ms Soubry around the club’s
new facilities.

““The opening went like
clockwork,” said Ray.
“We are delighted and honoured
that Ms Soubry was able to attend today and we are thrilled with
our new facilities.”
Ms Soubry said: “This is an excellent sporting facility and an
outstanding club. I hope that people will be encouraged to join.”
