The University of York
Judo Club has been successful in applying for a Sport England
grant for £6,371.
Club President Jonathan
Coe led the application while working closely with British Judo’s
Yorkshire and Humberside Development Officer Jeff Hynds.
Jonathan said: “Thanks
to the grant from Sport England the club will be able to both
expand and increase the quality of our offering to students.
"We’ll be able to
establish a greatly improved and expanded set of facilities with
the addition of extra floor mats, crash mats and wall padding,
allowing more advanced and technically demanding techniques to
be taught and learned.
"Combined with the
certification of two of our students as nationally recognised
UKCC Level 2 Coaches, this will in particular allow the club to
greatly enhance our ability to introduce new people to the sport
and martial art."
The club resumes training
on Sunday 16 October and is also open to non-students so whether
you’re a complete beginner or experienced competitor the club
can accommodate you.
The first two sessions
are free and judo suits will be provided.
