Meet the Coaches & Support Staff

Olympic & Paralympic Programme

Daniel Lascau

Performance Director

Role: Overall responsibility for the Olympic programme, strategic planning and implementation and management of performance coaches.

Dave Sanders

Paralympic Programme Manager

Role: Leads on the Paralympic Programme with planning and implementation, management of coaching and support staff working with VI elite, development and TID players. Responsible for Anti Doping. Manages external sponsors supporting the British Judo Performance Institute ie Pallini, Maximuscle. 2012 Paralympic Team Leader.

Karen Roberts

Performance Operations Manager

Role: Responsible for performance operations, implementation of the programme with the Head Coach, coaches, support staff and players, monitors budgets, works closely with performance lifestyle advisor. Coordinates work with Home Countries on TID, oversees and manages the England Programme staff, budget control and also works closely with the personal coaches.

Tsuyoshi Tsunoda

Technical Coach

Role: Responsible for planning technical work with the Head Coach and delivering specialist coaching support to elite players, primarily at training camps and competitions.

Lead Development Coach

Role: Provides coaching support to transitional and young development players and also works closely with the Lead Women’s Coach on individual athlete plans and work for elite players. Leads on coordinating the Junior Programme.

Development Coach

Role: Provides coaching support to transitional and young development players and also works closely with the Head Coach on individual athlete plans and work for elite players. Supports delivery on the Junior Programme.

Technical Coach

Role: Responsible for planning technical work with the Lead Women's Coach and delivering specialist coaching support to elite players.

Jean-Paul Bell

Paralympic Performance Coach

Role: Lead coach for the VI players, setting of performance objectives, development of individual plans and delivery of coaching support. Works closely with other support staff to integrate high level support and also has responsibility for coordinating work for designated elite player/s.

Strength & Conditioning Coach

Role: Responsible for periodised programme planning with Head Coach and delivery of judo specific strength and conditioning work and testing for elite players. Works closely with coaching and support staff to ensure work is integrated within athlete plans.

Lead Physiotherapist

Role: Lead physiotherapist for judo providing a comprehensive physiotherapy service to support the players and coaches in minimising time loss from training and competition through injury. Co-ordination of rapid reaction, ongoing monitoring and injury prevention strategies and work with other physios and other support staff.

Dr Craig White

Chief Medical Officer

Role: Responsible for providing high quality, evidence based and effective sports medicine to elite judoka; works closely with Lead Physio and coordinates work such as additional medical support, referrals, interventions with other contracted sports medical staff and medical network respectively

Performance Nutritionist

Role: Lead practitioner on performance nutrition, evaluates elite athlete’s needs around nutrition, hydration, weight management status, recovery and works closely with coaching and support staff to ensure work is integrated within athlete plans.

Nigel Donohue

Performance Analysis

Role: Leads and coaches on the England Programme, responsible for delivering the plan and ensuring effective coaching delivery and benchmarks for young players. Works closely with performance coaches on performance analysis strategy and support, to utilise technology and performance analysis to improve performance.

Anna Palfreyman

Performance Lifestyle Advisor

Role: Key job focus is on supporting players off the mat, such as making the relocation and transition from the home/club environment to the BJPI, balancing Judo with education and employment, where possible and development of athlete skills and experience outside of the judo environment.

Logistics Manager (HQ Based)

Role: Co-ordinates and administers the logistics of the BJA’s World Class Performance Programme which includes entries, accommodation, travel schedules and all other event related logistics for competitions and training camps.

BJPI Administrator

Role: Provides core and underpinning administration at the British Judo Performance Institute, including day to day operational support of the centre for staff and athletes, plus logistics and delivery of support for domestic training camps and other project based work.
