A full team of 16 will
travel to the 2007 European Cadet Championships, which will take
place in Malta from the 6-8 th July.
The team is made up
of British cadets aged 15 and 16 years, who have shown long term
potential in the sport, and have also achieved excellent results.
In Malta the brits will
face the best talent from throughout Europe.
In 2006 they won two
medals at the Championships, and one of the medallists, 16-year-old
Rebecca Telfer, from Leicester, re-appears in the team. She will
be looking to build upon the bronze she won in Hungary when she
beat Elpida Aslanidou of Greece in the bronze medal fight by ippon
to take her place on the medal rostrum.
Commenting World Class
Start Manager Rowena Birch, said, "The team contains both
some experienced players, who will be able to build on their performances
from last year, along with some emerging talent, several of which
who will be eligible to compete in this event next year”.
“We have had good preparation,
including a successful training camp in Poland and a further training
camp scheduled in Kendal next week. Over the last 12 months I
have really seen the players develop into mature young athletes,
with a professionalism in their approach to their training, and
pursuit of their sport.”
“This will no doubt
be the pinnacle of the players judo career so far, and although
medals at this event will be rewarding, our focus is on long term
development and the experience that competing in an event like
this will bring”.
