An eleven strong British team have today
departed for Salzburg, Austria, for the 2007 European -23year
Championships, which will take place this weekend (24th &
25th November).
The experienced team contains
many who, over the last 12 months, have won medals at senior level,
with some making a mark on the World Cup circuit.
Tom Reed, in the –81kg
weight category, will be hoping to make it onto the medal rostrum
for the second year running, having won bronze at this event in
2006, when he was Britain’s only medallist.
Sally Conway and Faith Pitman, who
have both made regular appearances for Britain during the European
World Cup season, will be competing in the –70kg and –63kg weight
categories respectively. 22-year-old Pitman, who most recently
placed 7th in Minsk World Cup, is looking strong in the Olympic
qualification ranking list, currently sitting in 6th place.
Lee Shinkin is back on
form in the –73kg weight category, winning gold at the Swedish
Open in November.
Andrew Burns, who finished
5 th in the World University Games in Bangkok in August, and earlier
this month won bronze at the 2007 Finnish Open, will be competing
in the –100kg weight category.
