Great Britain will
commence the final phase of Olympic qualifiers this month when
the team travel to the Tbilisi World Cup (for Men) in Georgia,
and the Sofia World Cup (for Women) in Bulgaria. Both take place
during the weekend of the 26-27 January 2008.
Britain automatically
qualified three weight divisions at the 2007 World Championships,
with the remaining spots requiring qualification through the European
series. With many of the Brits sitting in commanding positions
in the Olympic rankings following strong results in 2007, hopes
are high for a strong British presence in Beijing.
The three weight categories
automatically qualified at the 2007 World Championships were +78kg
women, -81kg men, and -100kg men. To qualify a Beijing spot requires
a top 9 European finish for men or a top 5 European finish for
women.
