British Schools Championships - 26th March 2011
All British Schools Championships
entrants will be entitled to a £1 ticket offer to attend the English
Senior Open on Sunday 27 March at iceSheffield.
Two adults will also be able to join the competitor at the ranking
event on the Sunday for the same discounted price of £1 each.
Tickets will be available on the Saturday (only) during the British
Schools event from the BJA merchandise stand where proof of participation
will be required. No tickets can be purchased at this special
price on the Sunday.
The 2011 English Senior Open will feature some of Britain’s top
judoka as Athens Olympian Sophie Cox will join fellow 2012 hopefuls
James Millar, Colin Oates, Megan Fletcher, Danny Williams and
Gemma Gibbons in the anticipated home country open.

British Schools Championships - Important Notes
REGISTRATION
& WEIGH-IN: Saturday 26th March 2011 in the Badminton
Hall at the English Institute of Sport - Sheffield (located across
the road from iceSheffield) at the following times:
Years 10 and 11: 09.00am – 9.45am
Years 6 and 7 and Years 8 and 9: 10.15am – 10.45am
Years 12 and 13: 11.15am – 11.45am
N.B. All competitors MUST bring their VALID judo licence (Team
Card/Licence Slip) to registration and also their record book
showing they meet the minimum grade.
COACH
PASSES: From 1st October 2008, ALL Coaches MUST produce
a VALID BJA Coach Award card in person at BJA centrally administered
National Events in order to be eligible for the following:
•
To gain entry to BJA centrally administered National Events (ALL
Coaches, whether coaching or not on the day, will be eligible
for a 50% reduction on the spectator fee on production of their
BJA Coach Award card, except for the GB World Cup)
• To
gain mat side access with their player at a BJA centrally administered
National Event (Only one coach per player will be permitted at
any one time).
PHOTOGRAPHY:
We intend to have various accredited photographers at this event
and we are planning to have some form of filming and internet
broadcast of some mats (connections permitting). Whilst no child’s
name will be published alongside their image and all of those
conducting the filming and or photography will have undergone
the necessary checks the BJA’s Lead Child Protection officer,
Julie Moores, needs to know as soon as possible of any players
entered who for legal or child protection reasons cannot have
their image published in the public domain.
You
should note that if no notification is received the BJA will be
using images taken at this event for media and publicity purposes
in order to promote the positive aspect of our sport.
BRITISH SCHOOLS
CHAMPIONSHIPS GUIDELINES – FOR JUDOKA AND PARENTS:
Judoka
· Help beginners or lower grades , if you can.
· Following all judo rules throughout the event.
· Bow correctly at the beginning and end of a contest.
It is not whether you win or lose, but
how you play the game.
· Accept decisions; let your coach ask any necessary questions.
· Control your temper, do not shout or abuse other judoka
or officials.
· Be a good sport, cheer all good play, and respect all
of your fellow judoka.
· Remember that the aims of the British Schools Championships
are to have fun and to
help you develop as a judoka. Improve your skills and conduct
yourself in a sportsman
like manner, plus represent the ideals, disciplines and etiquette
of the British Judo
Association to the highest level.
· Treat all other judoka as you would like to be treated,
do not take unfair advantage of any
judoka.
· Co-operate with your coach and opponents, without them
you do not have a game.
Parents
· Please be aware that children develop differently, at
different rates and react differently to
the same pressures.
· Children and young people are involved in organised sport
for their enjoyment as well as
yours and so please respect this at all times.
· Always encourage your child to train and compete by the
rules of judo.
· Teach your child that effort and teamwork are as important
as victory, so that the result of
each contest is accepted without unnecessary disappointment and
with a positive
sporting attitude.
· Never ridicule or shout at your child for making a mistake
or losing a contest.
· Children learn best by example. Applaud good play by
your team and by members of the
opposing team.
· Do not question publicly the officials’ judgement
and never their honesty.
· Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse
from children's sporting activities.
· Set an example by being friendly to the parents of the
opposition, emphasize enjoyment
and fun, praise and reinforce effort and improvement.
