A six-strong Great Britain
team has been selected for the Cadet World Championships from
Thursday 11 to Sunday 14 August in Kiev, Ukraine.
The eagerly-awaited event
follows a busy summer circuit for the cadet’s who have recently
been in action at the European Cadet Championships in June and
the European Youth Olympics Festival (EYOF) in July.
A very successful campaign
for Great Britain at the European Cadets Championships saw three
judoka receive pre-selection for the Cadet World Championships.
Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown
starred as she won all four fights to take Britain’s first gold
medal at the event since 2005 while Lucy Renshall took silver
and Hayley Willis secured bronze.
The EYOF saw three further
judoka come to the fore and book their place in the team for Turkey
as they met the performance criteria of a fifth-place finish or
higher.
Sam Hall captured silver while Jodie
Myers and Aiden Moffat both finished in fifth-place.
Team Leader Jamie Johnson
said: “We enjoyed strong campaigns at the Cadet European Championships
and European Youth Olympics Festival.
“The boys made progress
at the EYOF and that was very positive. These players selected
for the Cadet World Championships have earned the right to fight
for Great Britain and they’ve been supported by their personal
coaches and the national programme
“We have increased the intensity and become stricter with the
programme, when we take the players away we know they’ll give
us 100%. It’s a world event so know how strong it’ll be but we
we’re not going to make up the numbers, we’ve very competitive
and want to win medals.”
The Cadet World Championships
will see a new ruling from the International Judo Federation come
into effect as white judogi will be called first. This rule will
be in place at all future events including this month’s World
Championships in Paris.
