The British Judo Association
has announced that the 2011 English Senior Open will be held on
the 27th March at iceSheffield.
The event will take
place on the same weekend as the 2011 British Schools Championships,
which will be hosted on Saturday 26th March, also at iceSheffield.
The British Schools Championships,
a development event for secondary school
children aged 12 – 17-years-old, has been running for over
40 years. It was hosted by the BJA Events team for the first time
ever in March 2010 and attracted around 300 young judoka.
The British Judo Association
and the British Schools Commission are hoping that the event will
build in the larger arena of iceSheffield, home of the British
Championships, whilst still allowing the event to take place on
one day.

Sixth Forms and Colleges from throughout England, Ireland, Scotland
and Wales will travel to Sheffield to compete.
Identification Staff from
the Home Country’s programme’s will be at the Championships and
medallists may be invited to attend the England Squad Area Training
Sessions.
Taking place on Sunday
27th March is the English Senior Open, a points scoring national
ranking event where entrants can pick up points for the 2012 British
Squad Trials.
The event has been previously
hosted by various BJA Areas, most recently at Kendal Judo Club.
Next year a maximum of 450 entrants will be permitted.
The top three results at
each of the Home Country Open Championships and the British Open
will contribute to placing on the British Ranking List. After
the last event the top eight from British Ranking List will be
invited to British Trials.
Details of entry to the
two events will be available soon, so please keep an eye out on
the BJA News Feed and Calendar of Events.
Please bare in mind the British Schools
Championships is not open to any player who has been a member
of any Home Countries Squad programme (including co-opted onto)
past or present or any player who has won a medal at the BJA National
