A 15-strong GB team will
compete at the German European Cup on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24
July in Hamburg.
The European Cup will serve
as a training event for the team, as some judoka change weight
categories, in the final competition ahead of next month’s World
Championships in Paris.
The 15-strong team comprises
of seven men and eight women.
Kelly Edwards will be joined
in action by 2011 European Championship bronze medallist Sophie
Cox, Gemma Howell and Faith Pitman.
Sarah Clark, Karina Bryant
and Sarah Adlington will also compete.
Ashley McKenzie, James
Millar and Craig Fallon to see action along with 2011 European
Championship bronze medallist Colin Oates and Danny Williams.
Euan Burton, James Austin
and Winston Gordon complete the selection. All selected players
will remain in Hamburg for a four-day training camp from 25 –
28 July.
Additionally, 27 further
British judoka will compete in the event having part-funded their
participation.
Head Coach Patrick Roux
said: “We can say that it is a good marker towards the WC Paris,
but Hamburg is just a preparation for the GB team (not an objective).
Of course for some players individually it is different because
they need to perform to win their position in the GB team (selection).”
