291 athletes selected for 2012 England Squad as England Squad Performance Clubs introduced

Following the 2011 British Championships at iceSheffield on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 October the England Squad administration and coaching team have selected 291 athletes for the 2012 England Squad.

British Judo Association Clubs who have five plus judoka in the squad will now be recognised as ‘England Squad Performance Clubs’ as we continue to recognise the talent being developed by our clubs and their support to the England programme.

The 20 clubs span across seven British Judo areas and a full list split by area can be found below.

England Lead Coach Nigel Donohue said: “As we enter year three of the programme, there is growing expectation of the England players in terms of their continued development and performance level who have shown exceptional commitment and improvements over the last two years.

"Only the players who strive to push themselves to their very limits will succeed in the England programme and achieve long term success. Congratulation to all the players who have earned their selection for the England Squad, we demand and expect very high standards and look forward to a productive 2012”

British Judo Performance Operations Manager Karen Roberts said: “This England programme is growing in strength every year. We can be very proud of the quality of judoka coming from the clubs throughout the country and their development within the BJA England pathway. I am sure as we enter 2012 the London Olympics will be further inspiration for our next generation of elite players.”
