Judo festival inspires children

Mid Kent and Ashford School Sports Partnership staged a judo festival on Friday 26 November for children in the region to link-up with fellow newcomers from local schools.

The festival was run in conjunction with Sport Unlimited, a youth sports programme targeting children and young people who may not be naturally interested in sport, who secured funding from Kent Sport.

The sessions were led by highly-regarded coaches Jon Sieloff, who works on British Judo’s Enjoy Judo school programme, and Ian Jenkinson of Ashford Judo Club.

Peter Beard, British Judo’s South East Regional Development Officer, believes such sessions can spur on youngsters to try and reach the next level.

“These sort of events let children interact and train with players of the same age and experience who they have never met previously. This is what they would experience in competitions and everyone who took part said they had a great time.

“The festival was well-run and the coaches worked well with the children but we also have to recognise the financial support from partners Sport Unlimited and Kent Sport.”

Ashford Judo Club train at S. A. Y. C. Club, Ashford, TN23 5BD. Boys and girls (novice) train on a Saturday at 09:30 – 10:30, followed by advanced boys and girls at 10:30 – 11:30. Men and women train on the same day at 11:30 – 12:30.
