An EJU Men’s Olympic training
camp taking place at the British Judo Performance Institute in
Dartford, from 5th - 20th April, has attracted six international
countries.
The two-week camp will
prepare the GB men’s squad and other top male players from Russia,
Czech Republic, Andorra, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Slovakia for the
Senior European Championships, which is now just a week away.
Russia has sent twelve
of their highest ranked players to the camp including Alim Gadanov
(-66kg) World ranked no.3, Kirill Denisov (-90kg) World ranked
no.2 and Mansur Isaev (-73kg) World ranked no.4.
The Czech Republic has
four players at the camp, one of which is Lucas Krpalek, World
ranked no.10 in the -100kg weight category.
The British women’s squad
will join the men at Dartford in the final week before the European
Championships. A ten-strong team has been selected by British
Judo to compete in the Championships, taking place in Vienna,
Austria from the 22nd -25th April.
Taking the sessions will
be British Judo Head Coach Patrick Roux, Performance Coach Go
Tsunoda, Development Coach Darren Warner, Scottish Institute of
Sport’s Assistant High Performance Coach Billy Cusack. Working
on the player’s strength and conditioning will be Aurelien Broussal,
British Judo’s Strength and Conditioning Coach.
This EJU Olympic training
camp is one of five planned camps to take place in various Olympic
Training Centres. The next camp will take place in June, hosted
by the Russian Judo Federation, where the Brits will be in attendance.
The BJPI will also host
another training camp open to international players after the
London British Open, which is held on the 15th -16th May. The
British Open is an EJU Senior European Cup Event and will see
these top British and international players competing against
each other over two action-packed days.
