European Cadets champion
Katie-Jemima Yeats-Brown has showcased her talents on the world
stage as she captured bronze at the Cadet World Championships
in Kiev, Ukraine.
The Tonbridge judoka opened
her campaign by defeating Denmark’s Emilie Andersen by yuko.
Katie-Jemima followed up with wins
over Canada’s Monika Burgess and Kazakhstan’s Akerke Myrzabek,
both by way of a yuko score.
The semi-final saw Japan’s
Erina Ike defeat the European champion by ippon after earlier
registering a yuko score. Katie-Jemima’s task against the Japanese
judoka was best highlighted by 14 members of the 16-strong Japan
team claiming medals at the event.
In the bronze medal contest Katie-Jemima
defeated France’s Lisa Marchese to cap a fantastic run on the
cadets circuit having won the European title in June.
After stepping off the
medal rostrum Katie-Jemima said: "I was very relieved to
take bronze after losing to the Japanese girl in the semi-final.
"I was a waza-ari
down in the bronze medal match but managed to use good tactical
play and achieve in an ippon with just 20 seconds left."
Hayley Willis finished
in fifth-place, narrowly losing out in the bronze medal contest,
while Jodie Myers finished in seventh-place.
