It was with great sadness
that the British Judo Association announces that legendary judoka
Elvis Gordon has lost his battle with cancer.
The much-loved Gordon
was one of the most recognisable and charismatic figures in British
judo and was as widely known for his gentle temperament as his
heavyweight accomplishments.
With a heart-warming
smile, an agile skill-set and a breathtaking quickness on the
mat – which saw Elvis nicknamed ‘The Cat’ - the pride of Wolverhampton
Judo Club took his talents to the world.
Elvis dominated the
domestic heavyweight scene before lighting up the world stage
as he claimed world championships silver in 1987, a year before
winning the European Championships.
The British Judo Association
raised over £10,000 so far in a testimonial fund for Elvis.

Elvis
will be greatly missed by all his family, friends and the world
of judo and the British Judo Association’s thoughts are with his
family and those who knew him.
