The England squad will
have a glimpse into their future when they attend a special training
session at the British Judo Performance Institute in Dartford
on Wednesday 21 July.
The South East’s three
recently launched Cells in Redbridge, Pinewood and Tonbridge will
take part as England’s finest youngsters get to grips with the
country’s elite facility.
England squad administrator,
Trevor Sitlinton, said: “The idea is trying to link players to
getting the benefit of British Head Coach Patrick Roux and the
senior fighters because they’re they very best Britain has to
offer.
“We’d like to try and get
key players from other Cells from the Midlands and get them down
if we can.
“I’m hoping Patrick can
take the training, it obviously depends where he is and what he’s
doing. They use our English players at the BJPI to prepare for
major events and hopefully this training can help our players
see what full-time judo has to offer.”
The session could become
a permanent fixture as the players prepare to make their breakthrough
from the English squad to the senior British team.
Sitlinton added: “Our ExCell
coordinator Matt Divall is working hard to get everything up and
running and half of our squad are now working towards advancing
to the senior setup."
