As part of the new performance
strategy for England the BJA has received funding from Sport England
for an England Excel Programme, whose prime focus is to identify,
nurture and progress talented young players.
The framework for the new
programme consists of an England Programme, which encompasses
the England Talent Development squad and a network of Performance
Cells. These Performance Cells will provide the crucial
link and ‘stepping stone’ between those clubs currently producing
competitive players and the England Core Programme and British
Judo Performance Institute Programme.
An effective England
Talent Development Programme and system, which underpins the World
Class Programmes reinforced with a strong technical focus is a
high priority for British Judo generally and for English judo
specifically as it relates to this objective.
An interim Programme Board
pending the appointment of the England Excel Manager, will be
responsible for developing the England programme.
The priority age groups
for the England Talent Development Programme are Cadet
(U17) and Junior (U20)
however, the BJA does recognise the significant need to develop
Pre Cadets (U15) and Senior
players to underpin English performance and will task the Interim
Programme Board in partnership with the English Areas in providing
a way that these players can be meaningfully engaged and developed.
