England ExCell West to be launched

Five Performance Cells across England have been successfully launched as part of the England ExCell Programme and the British Judo Association is pleased to announce the launch of two Cells in the West.

The England ExCell programme was launched in 2009 with the first pilot being in the North West, with the aim of ensuring that players develop technically, increase their training volume and access to quality practice in order to nurture and then transfer successfully to the Great Britain programme through the performance pathway.

Matt Divall, England Excel Co-ordinator is pleased with the progress the programme has made and said, “The England ExCell’s are definitely making a difference and I’m sure that with the great work being delivered by the coaches working within the ExCell’s, that will continue. The programme is very player centred and we are making high quality sessions as accessible as possible.

We have learnt a lot from previous launches and I can see the England ExCell West being a great success in the same way.”

The first of the two ExCell’s to launch is in the 'North' of the Western Area and will be at the University of Bath on Tuesday 8th February 7.30-9.30pm. The ExCell sessions will then run every week on a Tuesday, allowing quality contact time on a week to week basis with players identified from the England Squad programme and players from the area.

The second cell in the 'South' of the Western area will launch on the Wednesday 9th March from 7.00 – 9.00pm at Plymouth Judo Club and will run every fortnight.

The sessions at the two locations will have regular contact from England staff, who will work in co-operation with support staff and area coaches with the aim to improve the technical levels of those in attendance. The two hour sessions will include Randori opportunities in addition to technical work.

The West joins the North West, Midlands and South East Areas in the England ExCell structure. The sessions are focused on players aged 12years and above with a minimum grade of 10th Mon.
