Holbrook Judo Club have
raised the most amount of money for May Madness, British Judo’s
annual fundraising initiative for clubs, for the fifth successive
year.
The British Judo Association
encourages clubs to stage events such as fight nights, taster
evenings and sponsored throws - which have all proved popular
in recent years – as clubs raise funds for themselves and the
British Judo Trust.
Club coach Paul Vella said:
“We’re delighted to retain the prize again and be the top fundraisers
for May Madness in Britain.
“When May Madness started
I set a target of us being the top fundraising club every year
up to the Olympics. We’re fortunate to have some very special
guests over the years for our fundraising efforts including 2006
Commonwealth Games winner Brett Caswell and our twin town club
from Royan, France.”
The club have won tickets
to the 2011 GB World Cup which takes place on Saturday 1 and Sunday
2 October at Echo Arena Liverpool and a special visit from British
Judo Chairman Densign White.

Bexley Judokwai finished
in second place and will also receive tickets to the British showpiece
in Liverpool.
Club Coach Dave Dunsford
said: “I'm flabbergasted! We had a brilliant fun day with sponsored
water balloon catching and lots of games. Everyone involved really
enjoyed themselves.”
Emma Davies-Carolan, British
Judo Trust Director, said: “Once again we thank all the clubs
for their tremendous efforts and congratulate all those who took
part. We look forward to seeing prize winners Holbrook Judo Club
and Bexley Judokwai at the GB World Cup.”
The British Judo Trust
operates solely off donations and aims to support the development
of the sport and make a real difference. If you would like to
