The Isle of Man witnessed
its first showcase of Judo Fit and a host of British Judo’s latest
initiatives as part of a technical weekend at the National Sports
Centre in Douglas from Friday 4 to Sunday 6 February.
The event, which was held
in conjunction with Douglas and Isle of Man Judo Club’s, was led
by British Judo’s technical officers and former British internationals
Kerry Finney and Dermot Heslop.
As the town of Douglas
hosted an enthusiastic group of judoka and coaches, Kerry and
Dermot delivered a wide range of content including an introduction
to UKCC and the Shape Up For Success award as well as a grading
and promotions update.

Richard Lloyd, a veteran
3rd Dan from Isle of Man Judo Club, said: “On the Friday Kerry
and Dermot really pushed us though
our paces, introducing us to Judo Fit and Gymnastics for judo.
“Saturday was aimed mainly
at our coaches, but again Kerry and Dermot made it very interesting
and focusing on our coaching awareness and coaching styles.
“We continued on Sunday,
with Kerry making a very big impression on our Kano-aged judokas.
Dermot ran the senior session which again was lapped up by our
more experienced and older members and also some of our fast improving
novices.
“The weekend really motivated our coaches and brought the members
of both clubs together. I was greatly impressed when individuals
were struck with a new enthusiasm and a keener interest.
I can only put this down to the input and teaching styles of both
Kerry and Dermot.”
