Three exciting British
talents performed a judo demonstration at Heathrow Airport recently
as part of a new funding link-up between Sports Aid and Airwave
Solutions.
The demonstration was staged
on behalf of Airwave, a market-leading public safety communications
company, who are one of the official suppliers to the London 2012
Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Airwave operates an emergency
services’ radio communication system, which is used by the police,
fire brigade and other public safety organisations .
The company has entered
a new partnership with SportsAid which will see them provide much-needed
financial support for 20 of the country’s top aspiring athletes
each year until the end of 2012.
Teenagers Luke Meadows,
Sam Potts and Jack Kelly demonstrated some high-octane tachi-waza
which was commended by those watching including Airwave’s Chief
Executive Officer Richard Bobbett.

Geoff Smith, Human Resources
Director at Airwave said: “We are very excited about our involvement
with SportsAid. As a supplier to London 2012 it is natural for
us to be involved with sport directly in Britain and with the
sportsmen and women who have aspirations to be Olympic champions.
The experience that SportsAid brought with them was clear to see
and a partnership with them would benefit both Airwave and the
athletes.
“To help us support SportsAid
athletes, we have enrolled 20 Airwave staff who will act as the
athletes’ buddies. The buddies’ role will be to understand what’s
involved in competing on a regular basis and at a very competitive
level, and to inform the rest of the company how they are performing
through their own web page. The buddies will be responsible for
keeping the page updated with information, for example when they
are next competing, and results after they have competed.”
Trevor Sitlinton, England
Squad Coordinator, said: “We appreciated the opportunity to stage
the demo and thank Airwave for their help in staging the event.
“SportAid have supported
us for many years and we’re excited by their link-up with Airwave
which will provide invaluable support to British athletes including
our judoka.”
