British Judo London has
become one of the first sports governing bodies to adopt a new
strategy designed to actively encourage the participation of disabled
people.
Called ‘Inclusive and Active 2’, it is a sport and
physical activity strategy for disabled people in London, and
has been created by Interactive in partnership with the Greater
London Authority (GLA) and NHS London.
This strategy will not only aim to increase participation levels,
but will also aim to change the perception of disabled people
and embed sport and physical activity within their mainstream
provision.
In adopting Inclusive and Active 2, British Judo has developed
an action plan detailing how they will implement targets under
five strategic themes. Key areas include: increasing club opportunities,
actively employing disabled people and promoting Judo as a viable
activity choice for disabled people.
Karen French, London Development Manager of British Judo, welcomed
the move.
Speaking at the VI (Visually
Impaired) European Championships, Karen said: "The formal
adoption of ‘Inclusive and Active 2’ is just one step
along the pathway for judo to become a more inclusive sport, building
on the good practice there is currently around areas like VI Judo
that we see here today.
"We are excited about this partnership with Interactive and
look forward to playing an active role in developing equality
of sports opportunities in London”
