Seven-strong British squad to compete at Moscow Grand Slam

A seven-strong British squad will take part in the Moscow Grand Slam on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 May.

The Russian showpiece is one of four Grand Slam events and is an important fixture for many of the world’s strongest judo nations. The remaining Grand Slams take place in Paris (February), Rio (June) and Tokyo (December).

Britain will take part in a post-event training camp in Moscow from Monday 30 May – Thursday 2 June.

2010 European u23 Champion Ashley McKenzie will compete in the -60kg category while 2011 European Championship bronze medallist Colin Oates will fight at -66kg.

Nathon Burns will also see action at -66kg as a result of his British Open gold medal.

World number three Euan Burton moves up from -81kg to -90kg for the event while Winston Gordon will also compete in the -90kg category.

Gemma Howell will fight at -57kg while Sarah Clark will compete at -63kg.

Matthew Purssey was due to compete at -90kg but was forced out through injury.

Meanwhile a ten-man party are currently taking part in an Olympic Training Camp (16 – 20th May) in Russia ahead of the competing at the Orenburg European Cup on 21 and 22 May.

Ashley McKenzie will compete at -60kg while Craig Fallon and Colin Oates will see action at -66kg.

Danny Williams and Owen Livesey fight -73kg with Tom Reed the British representative at -81kg.

Winston Gordon tackles the -90kg category while James Austin and a fit-again Peter Cousins take to the -100kg field.

Chris Sherrington will campaign at +100kg.
