The Netherlands has confirmed
that they will send a maximum 28 strong team to the 2009 GB World
Cup for men – 14 men and 14 women.
It will be the biggest
team ever sent to a GB World Cup by the Netherlands, who stormed
to success in Beijing, winning four medals – bronzes from Ruben
Houkes (-60kg) Henk Grol (-100kg) and Edith Bosch (-70kg), and
a silver medal won by Deborah Gravenstjin (63kg).
The GB World Cup will come
three weeks after the 2009 World Championships taking place in
Rotterdam from the 26th to 30th August. As hosts, the Netherlands,
with home crowd advantage, will go in as medal favorites, having
won four medals at the last World Championship in 2007, including
a World title by Ruben Houkes.
If you want to catch the
Netherlands, and the other 37 countries expected to compete, at
Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena on the 19th & 20th September,
call the Ticket Factory on 0844 3388000. Tickets are priced £14
per adult per day and £6 per child/senior citizen per day.
Remember it is double the
action this year. The first ever to feature both men and women,
it will be the biggest ever held in Britain.
There will also be lots
of action off the mat for spectators including the chance to meet
Olympic gold medallist and three times World Champion Kosei Inoue
– arguably the greatest judoka of the last 10 years. Inoue, a
guest of honour at the tournament, will be conducting autograph
signing sessions on both days on the concourse.
Competition Schedule:

-52kg, -57kg, -63kg & Men’s -60kg, -66kg, -73kg
