The
National Lottery has announced that it will be hosting the first
ever public event in the Olympic Stadium. The National Lottery
Olympic Park Run will offer the chance for 5,000 participants
to be first cross the Olympic finish line.
The
National Lottery Run will take place on 31 March 2012 and the
five mile course will be contained within the Olympic Park. The
ballot for entry will open later this month and people from across
the UK will be selected at random to take part.
A
National Lottery spokesperson said: "As a celebration of
the £2.2bn National Lottery players will contribute towards
the staging of London 2012, we have secured the chance for people
with all abilities to be the first to grab a piece of the Olympic
Games action.
"This is a once
in a lifetime opportunity to run on the track that the world's
elite athletes will compete on, against a stunning backdrop of
venues which Lottrey players have part-funded. Watch out for more
informaiton on the ballot launch date to make sure you're in with
a chance to grab your place in this historic event."
The National Lottery
is contributing up to £2.2 billion towards the funding of
the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, including the venues
and infrastructure where Britain's athletes hope to fulfil their
dreams.

The National Lottery enables Britain's elite competitors to train
as full-time professionals, and provides them with world class
support. From 2006 to 2013 The National Lottery is providing in
excess of £310 million to support potential Team GB and
Paralympics GB athletes as they prepare for London 2012 and beyond.
