First One Movement Festival attracts 1,000 youngsters to try Olympic sports

Over 1,000 Tower Hamlets residents came to experience a host of Olympic sports at the inaugural One Movement Festival which was staged by The East London Business Alliance (ELBA) and Tower Hamlets Council at Clissold Park, Hackney, on Saturday 30 July.

The One Movement festival is one of eight taking place in the run up to the Olympics aimed at encouraging more young people to become engaged in sports.

British Judo North London Development Coach Gabor Szanyi Nagy led the judo sessions with support from his fellow Capital London Judo Club coaches.

“The One Movement festival showcased the great appetite the people of Tower Hamlets have for Olympic sports and judo was hugely popular with the crowds,” said Szanyi-Nagy.

“We led those taking part through break falls, the art of spreading your impact when you land to avoid injury, and some basic moves such as tai otoshi (body drop).”

All visitors received a brochure containing names and addresses of sports clubs in East London and asked to join clubs they were interested in to help build a sporting legacy among young people in the Olympic Host Boroughs.
