In view of recent results
and after a careful review of all High Performance operations,
we have decided to make personnel changes to ensure the British
Team has the best chance of meeting, or exceeding, the medal target
of two at the London 2012 Olympics.
With immediate effect,
Margaret Hicks (Performance Director), Patrick Roux (Head Coach)
and Jane Bridge (Senior Women’s Coach) are no longer employed
by the Association. The rest of the coaching and support staff
under the Performance structure will remain in place.
We have appointed Daniel
Lascau as Performance Director and he has been charged with providing
strong leadership to all programme stakeholders, to ensure we
are functioning as a true unit to support our athletes to the
highest level in the quest for Olympic medals. You may be aware
of Daniel through his work with the German and Swedish Judo Federations,
along with being a Vice President of the European Judo Union.
He is a widely experienced judo leader and we are confident he
can make an immediate impact. Daniel will officially begin work
for the BJA on 3rd October.
It should be noted that
Margaret Hicks, Patrick Roux and Jane Bridge had a positive and
measurable impact in recent years for which the BJA owes these
individuals a debt of gratitude and we wish them all the very
best for the future. It is never easy to change the leadership
in mid cycle, but we are confident this difficult decision is
the right one for British Judo.
