Important Notice regarding the British Schools Championships

The entry for the British Schools Judo Championships has been closed due to reaching the maximum number of 300 entrants for this year’s event.

This number is set to allow a safe amount of children to go through the mat in an acceptable length of day.  The event was planned based on 2008’s entry numbers whilst allowing for a 30% growth rate.  To have had a year on year growth at this level is unprecedented for a national event.

We have introduced a reserve list on top of the 300 and have also offered refunds to any competitor who needs to withdraw to ensure we can maintain the maximum number of competitors for this event.

Due to the overwhelming response to this event, the BJA Events team will be looking into ways for the event to continue to grow from next year onwards to allow more competitors to compete. Options that will be considered include moving to a larger venue or increasing the duration of the event.

For clarification, any competitor that completed the online entry system for this event is classed as being entered into the event and will be 1 of the 300 competitors accepted. Because an entry is being processed and is classed as pending either because we are waiting for the school to confirm eligibility or because the payment needs to be taken, this does not mean that a competitor will have been withdrawn.  The only reason a withdrawal will take place is if the competitor advises us they need to withdraw or if the school advises us that a competitor is ineligible to enter.
