South Brent Judo Club in
Devon has become the first club in the British Judo Western Area
to achieve the Sport England Silver Clubmark Accreditation.
On the afternoon of
Saturday 20th February 2010, the British Judo Association Chairman
Densign White presented the club with their Clubmark award and
was encouraged to see the club doing so well.
As well as the presentation
on the day, Densign ran an action packed session for the club’s
5 to 12 year old members, with a combination of technical input
and judo related games. And for the club’s youth and senior players
he shared tips he had picked up working with other coaches across
Europe.
“I was pleased to present
South Brent Judo Club with their silver Clubmark, an outstanding
achievement to be the first club in their Area,” said Densgin.
“It was good to see the
children enjoy the sessions on the day and I look forward to seeing
the club develop further,” he added.
Also present on the day
was Western Area Chairman, Dave Allen and BJA Development Officer
Stephen Hammond, who helped the club apply to Sport England.
The club, which was
established back in 1970, boasts a healthyattendance of judoka
who regularly take part in sessions held on a Monday and Thursday
evening at the Pavilion at Palstone Recreation Park, Exeter Road,
South Brent.
Committed to developing
the opportunities for their youth players, the club has established
links with various local Schools and Colleges and also became
the first club in the Western Area to develop a Blue School2Dojo
link in 2009 . They actively support
their young official volunteers and coaches through the BJA course
scheme and Volunteers programme.
Peter Whitfield, Club Chairperson
and Volunteer Coordinator who received the certificate on behalf
of the club said, “All the members of South Brent J udo Club are
absolutely delighted to know that through achieving the Silver
Clubmark award, our club has been formally recognised as providing
a high quality judo experience, and being the first in the ‘West’
makes it extra special!
“The committee and members
of South Brent judo Club would like to thank Densign for finding
the time in his busy schedule to come down to deepest Devon to
present us with our Silver Clubmark certificate, and for providing
such interesting and enjoyable sessions. ”

Club Recognition scheme is an initiative that is being introduced
to recognise and reward examples of good practice within clubs
that are promoting and delivering Judo. It will also spread best
practice in management and coaching across the country.
An integral part of the BJA Recognition
Scheme is the Sport England Clubmark - a scheme created in partnership
with National Governing Bodies with the aim of accrediting sports
clubs that are committed to providing a safe, effective and child-friendly
environment for children and young people.
