The 2010 Junior World Championships
continued on Friday in Agadir, Morocco with the under 52, 57,
66 and 73kg categories taking to the mat.
Three British fighters
were in action on day two as Sam Clark, Lewis Keeble and Owen
Livesey all made a tilt at world honours.
Scot Sam Clark, who campaigns
in the under 52kg division, had a bye in the first round along
with Turkey’s Tugba Zehir which resulted in a bout between the
pair in the second round.
Zehir, 18, has already
made a mark on the senior stage having picked up a silver medal
at February’s IJF World Cup in Bucharest and won the Turkish European
Cup in July.
Livingston judoka Clark
was on the receiving end of a yuko score which proved the difference
when the four minute bout reached the time limit.
In the under 66kg category
Lewis Keeble had a bye in the first round which produced a second
round contest against Tunisian Houcem Khalfaqui.
Khalfaqui scored a yuko
and followed up to take the contest by ippon half way through
the fight.
In the under 73kg division
Owen Livesey faced German Hannes Conrad in the first round. Conrad
scored a yuko and was intent on protecting his advantage rather
than increasing the margin. Livesey tried to impose himself in
the contest but his exhausted opponent repeatedly went down to
his knees without receiving a penalty. The solitary yuko score
saw Conrad progress to the second round.
On Saturday Jodie Mullen
takes to the mat for Britain in the under 63kg category while
Joshua Butler will be part of Sunday’s under 100kg category.
