West Ham FC to stage second judo competition

West Ham United Football Club will host a second Premier League 4 Sport judo competition at Royal Docks Community School on Thursday 18 November.

After a highly-successful maiden competition in May, which was also hosted by Royal Docks School, the Premiership outfit will see seven school’s square off on the mat next month.

Hosts Royal Docks will be joined by Cumberland School, Jo Richardson Community School, Eastbury Comprehensive and Sydney Russell Comprehensive School along with Langdon and St Angela’s Ursuline School.

The Premier League 4 Sport programme sees each top-flight side create four satellite sports clubs which offer judo, badminton, table tennis and volleyball.

British Judo’s East London Development Coach Nicole Nunn has coached many of the young players through the Premier League 4 Sport programme and is tasked with staging the event.

“I am co-ordinating the event as I coach most of the children through the PL4S scheme,” said Nunn.

“All the players are excited at the prospect of trying out their new skills against another school. I am also hoping to introduce the players to the local club coaches to help children make the transition into clubs.

“I think that the competition is an important part of our sport as we saw our numbers increase after our initial event. It’s important to show the participants of the PL4S scheme as many sides to our sport as possible.”
