With the
2012 London Olympics around the corner the British Judo Performance
Directorate are looking to establish a Fast Track Coaches Programme
(FTCP), to accelerate the professional development of a group
of forward thinking British coaches, in order that they have the
best opportunity to prepare and coach athletes in the build up
to the Home Games and beyond.
The initial programme will
run for 12 months and focus not only on coaching and technical
elements, but also incorporate performance planning, physical
preparation and mental skills for developing top level judo players,
the development of ‘softer type’ management skills and consist
of a Coach Evaluation Day and 6 Weekend Workshops. The FTCP will
be led by Patrick Roux (6 th dan), who is well renowned in France
as a top FFJ Judo coach educator at INSEP, a former Junior Men’s
Coach and who has recently been appointed as a Teaching and Coaching
Fellow in Performance Judo at the University of Bath. Patrick
will be supported by other high level practitioners. The FTCP
will be supported by UK Sport and will feature as part of their
WINNING COACHES SERIES FOR 2012.

All applicants need
to have a BJA Coaching qualification and also demonstrate an enlightened
coaching philosophy and desire to successfully coach in the high
performance judo arena. Shortlisted applicants will be invited
to a Coach Evaluation Day on Saturday 10 May and successful coaches
will then be required to commit to the following workshop dates
at the University of Bath. To note all workshops will start at
1800-1830 on a Friday evening and departure will be around 1600
on a Sunday afternoon.

Coaches will receive some
individual coach mentoring support from Patrick Roux and benefit
from an individual training needs analysis. Coaches will also
be able to undertake a funded coaching research project to enhance
their learning during the course of the programme. All travel,
accommodation and subsistence costs will be funded by British
Judo.
