Judo Development Officer

Salary: Circa £18000.00     Start: September/October 2006     1 Year Fixed Term Contract

The Tower Hamlets School Sport Partnership is the major facilitator of PE and Sport in the borough. A lack of sports clubs and open spaces, plus a high level of deprivation means that opportunities in School Sport and high quality of PE are even more important than usual.

The partnership is developing rapidly and due to an emphasis on strengthening relationships between all schools and personnel, a close network of Heads of PE, SSCos and PLTs exists in the borough.

There are two branches to the Partnership programme in Tower Hamlets, and the branch which is based at Langdon Park Community Sports College in Poplar is looking to host 6 exciting new positions in September.

Although there will be certain responsibilities to Langdon Park Partnership schools, there will be a pan-borough responsibility in most of these roles.

We seek industrious, enthusiastic, innovative and ambitious people to fill these positions and we aim to support our employees in achieving their own personal goals. A passion for sport and a dedication for providing opportunities to young people are essential for success in there positions.

One of the positions we are recruiting for, is a Judo Development Officer. This post carries particular significance as Tower Hamlets is a host borough for the 2012 Olympic Games.

There are pockets of good practice in Judo within the borough, but most schools do not provide opportunities in Judo activity because of a lack of expertise and knowledge. The partnership believes Judo has a major role to play in the borough, offering skills and disciplines that are different to most other sports.

Applications will be considered from level 2 coaches or above as the post will involve a large amount of coaching and tuition, but all skills required for successfully developing a structure to facilitate non-school participation and to support Gifted and Talented performers is also a necessity.

As the post is a pilot for the British Judo Association, the post holder will also be required to work closely with the regional manager, receiving guidance and support through the BJA itself.

For an informal discussion on any of these positions, please contact the Partnership Development Manager, Chris Willetts on: 0207 517 9910.

For an application pack please contact Langdon Park Community Sports College’s main office on: 0207 987 4811.

Closing date for all posts: Friday 15 th September
