Technical grading pilot scheme gains support of the BJA Coaching Commission

The BJA Coaching Commission have approved in principle the proposed revisions to the Junior Grading syllabus currently being piloted by our Technical Director Dr Andrew Moshanov. Commission members and Area Technical Directors were given a presentation of the proposed criteria at a recent meeting and they unanimously endorsed it as the desired baseline criteria for the forthcoming modifications to our current Junior grading scheme from Novice through to 18th Mon.

Andrew explained to those present that:

"The system has been designed to elevate the current technical standard of junior judo in Britain and it encompasses a good mixture of skills and techniques as incorporated in similar learning resources in French, German and Russian Judo systems. The number of techniques offered as a compulsory knowledge base has been almost tripled, however it is not all about the numbers. The syllabus has all major of the desired performance skills and sees them progressively introduced to players. Players need to grasp these skills regardless of them choosing to follow a competitive or non-competitive pathway in Judo".

The full draft version of this new Junior Syllabus will be displayed on the BJA web site shortly for nationwide discussion and feedback.
