Silver for Sally at Junior World Championships

Sally Conway has won silver, in the –78kg weight category, at the Junior World Championships, which took place in the Dominican Republic, from the 12th to the 15th October.

The win for Conway, who trains at the Edinburgh Club, comes in a category above her usual –70kg category. The result is a personal best for the Junior British Open Champion, who has won bronze in the Tre Torri International, silver in the Junior Estonian A Tournament, and 5th in the Junior A Tournament in 2006.

The 19-year-old, who is originally from Bristol, beat Raimonda Gedutyte of Lithuania, Lea Murko of Slovenia, Tijana Radic of Serbia & Montenegro but lost to Haruna Kawaskima of Japan in the final.

Abbie Cunningham, who trains at SKK Judo Club, narrowly missed out on a medal, finishing in 5th place in the +78kg weight category. She lost in the fight for the bronze medal against Na Young Kim of Korea.
