It is with sadness that
the British Judo Association announces the passing of Tony Orton.
Tony, who competed at
light middleweight, was a member of the British team in 1960’s
and was reserve for Brian Jacks at the 1964 Olympic Games.
He was a member of the
Judokan and also the Budokwai in London, and in 1968 played a
major part in organising the 50th anniversary show of The Budokwai
at the Royal Albert Hall.
In 1970 he moved to
Japan where he often hosted at his house British fighters who
were training in the country.
Tony died aged 70 on
17th October at the Juntendo Hospital, Urayasu, Japan after a
long illness.
He leaves wife Kazumi
and two children.
