Moorlands School Sport Partnership meets Black Belt Wayne

Wayne Lakin, Enjoy Judo National Programme Coordinator, has been working closely with Partnership Development Managers around the Midlands on a variety of projects. Jackie Conn, Partnership Development Manager for Moorlands SSP in Stoke, contacted the British Judo Association through our website. She wanted judo in her schools to open up access to new sports and to finish with a primary festival.

After a meeting with Wayne, it was finalised that the Enjoy Judo programme would spend three days introducing the sport to three primary schools in the area. Following these induction days, the Schools Coaches had two curriculum-based sessions for disaffected young people followed by an after school club for the primary school pupils but based at Endon High School.

The main aim of this initiative was to utilise a variety of areas of the PESSCL strategy. These included a new sport to young people who had never tried judo, out of school hours learning, the involvement of young leaders for the after school club and during the festival, and school links to a local judo club.
