Movements (Tai Sabaki)

Judo is a very dynamic physical exercise involving various movements of both opponents (TAI SABAKI).

The main objective of Judo practice is to maintain one’s own balance while taking the opponent off his.  For the player, effective bodily movements would be regarded as those not weakening his own stability and balance.

Effective TAI SABAKI initiates from the hips, so that the foot or the shoulder should not be moved in advance of the hips.

This point is very often illustrated at performance level Judo, when one of the players in order to misguide his opponent about his true and major attack, produces foot a feint hoping to send him a misleading message.

Experienced judoka do not react to such feints unless they are initiated from the hip.

TANDEN is the beginning of TAI SABAKI, hence TANDEN is the beginning of a FEINT.
